Aminul Islam of BCWS Detained and Tortured

Aminul Islam of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, was detained, beaten, and attacked with death threats before he managed to barely escape from Bangladeshi authorities in their witch hunt to imprison and silence labor rights advocates speaking out against sweatshop conditions and the lowest wages in the world.

Upon escaping, Aminul said, “Now I’m living in extreme anxiety. I don’t even know what I should do now. I can’t walk. I can’t even move because of the pain that I got from the beating. I can’t sleep. Nightmares of torture won’t let me sleep.”

Meanwhile, U.S. corporations including Wal-Mart, JC Penny, and Sears have failed to send a strong message to the government of Bangladesh and have refused to suspend their orders to the companies in Bangladesh provoking this violent oppression.
